Portrait of Michel Collins deep in South Central |
I went shooting with USD / Ground Control / JUG team rider Michael Collins back in April when he came out to Los Angeles for a week. ONE emails me a week before he came out and asks me if I wanted to shoot him. It took me by surprise to say the least! That moment where you ask yourself "Did i just read that right?"
It's definitely strange shooting a guy who I remember from his first section in Brandon Negrete's film "Road to Nowhere" at the age of 13. But rollerblading is like that - watching pros on the screen and then someday blading with them in person.

There I was, going through edits and sections, figuring out what kind of skater he is. It's one thing when the person you're shooting is a local, another when they're not and you have to imagine what's interesting to them. It means checking out spots (which are hit or miss), talking to that person, and giving them feedback. That and calling up people up people to ask them for spot suggestions.
I wish we could have scooped a few more shots (there was one grind to gap spot we were booted from that would have been killer...Just needed a few more tries!), though all in all, I'm satisfied with the end results.
Most of these shots were done with 1-2 lights, with much of the post work done in Lightroom, then finished off in Photoshop.
